The Evolution of Japan’s Oldest Existing Winery, Maruki Winery! Today After Its Renewal!

Contents
Maruki Winery was founded in 1891 by Ryuken Tsuchiya upon his return from studying winemaking in France.
It is said to be Japan's oldest existing winery.
Located in the Katsunuma area of Yamanashi Prefecture, where numerous wineries stand side by side, many wine enthusiasts may have already visited.
This year, Maruki Winery underwent a major renewal.
CHAPTER 01
Asking Winemaker Mr. Yasuda! Maruki Winery's Commitment to Wine
Maruki Winery has cherished Ryuken Tsuchiya's belief to this day—"Just as French wine pairs with French cuisine, there is no reason Koshu grapes shouldn't pair with Japanese food"—and produces truly wonderful Koshu wines.
The winemaking team led by Head Winemaker Masafumi Yasuda researches various vinification methods and yeast strains to craft a diverse range of Koshu styles.
Furthermore, as a grape variety preserved by Yamanashi's predecessors, they pour their heart and soul into Muscat Bailey A just as they do with Koshu, assessing the unique characteristics of the grapes that vary from year to year and selecting the optimal vinification method for each. To bring out the full potential of the grapes, harvests from various vineyards are separated into individual tanks as much as possible for vinification.

CHAPTER 02
A Tasting Guided by Mr. Uchida of Maruki Winery & Mr. Tashiro of IWAI TERRACE!
Maruki Winery currently produces approximately 200,000 bottles of wine per year.
In their estate vineyards, they cultivate several grape varieties including Koshu, Muscat Bailey A, Kai Noir, and Yama Sauvignon. Sheep are kept in the vineyards, and they aim for sustainable agriculture by reducing pesticide use as much as possible.
Mr. Nobutsugu Uchida of Maruki Winery introduced the winery and wines, while Mr. Kodai Tashiro of IWAI TERRACE introduced the beer! Please take a look!

CHAPTER 03
The Arrival of "IWAI TERRACE," a Cafe Offering Panoramic Views of the Kofu Basin and Southern Alps!
A restaurant where you can enjoy craft beer from the adjoining brewery recommended by Mr. Tashiro has also opened.

Furthermore, from spring through autumn, you can enjoy BBQ on the open-air terrace seating!
