ABOUT

Born in the Kofu Basin of Yamanashi Prefecture, with a history of winemaking behind it. Guided by the motto “good wine begins with good grapes,” the winery continues its efforts every day. Sainte Neige means “holy snow.” In keeping with that noble, pure name, it pursues wines of high quality.

Beautiful, pristine wines that can proudly be called Japanese wine.

FEATURE STORY

Philosophy

“Sainte Neige” means “holy snow” in French.

The name comes from the snow that crowns Mt. Fuji, Japan's highest peak and a mountain renowned around the world for its beauty.

We called the radiantly shining snow in that highest, almost sacred place “Sainte Neige”—holy snow. It may seem presumptuous, but that height symbolizes the standard we aspire to reach. Our goal is to make wines that can only be created in Japan, wines that express the individuality of Japanese grapes. Nothing would make us happier than a moment when people can feel proud of Japanese wine.

Grapes

Japanese wine is wine made from 100% grapes grown in Japan and both vinified and bottled domestically.

Sainte Neige uses only high-quality grapes nurtured by rich natural environments in carefully selected growing regions across Japan, including Kaminoyama in Yamagata and the Kofu Basin in Yamanashi.

We respect nature and work in harmony with it.

And each year, grateful for another good harvest, we make full use of what the grapes give us without waste.

That has always been—and will continue to be—the Sainte Neige style.

Taste

To create flavors possible only in Japan—flavors that no other country can imitate.

That is the theme Sainte Neige continues to pursue.

Graceful. Subtle. Supple. Gentle.

Perhaps a wine that seems to carry the resonance of beautiful Japanese words like these is what a truly Japanese wine can be. Sainte Neige continues its daily pursuit of excellence, aiming to express that sense of Japan while delivering wines of the highest quality.

History

In 1947, a winery that would become the foundation of today's operation was established on the outskirts of Kofu City, Yamanashi Prefecture.

Winemaking later began under the name Taihei Brewing Co., Ltd.

In 1972, Sainte Neige Wine was adopted as the company name.

Its history has always been defined by a sincere commitment to winemaking.

Wines refined through roughly 70 years of Sainte Neige history, delivered to those who love wine.

The challenge continues, now and into the future.
