ABOUT

From Enzan to the world! Bringing everyone the deliciousness of Koshu wine.

Since our founding in 1952, with our own vineyards at the center and cooperation from local growers,

all of our wines have been made from 100% Yamanashi-grown grapes.

FEATURE STORY

History

“Komazono” is the local field name of the winery's estate vineyard, where Koshu grapes were cultivated even before the winery was founded.

Carrying forward its founding philosophy of “winemaking close to nature,” Komazono Vineyard is a small Japanese winery committed to using 100% Yamanashi-grown grapes in every wine. It works primarily with its own vineyards, supplemented by grapes carefully cultivated by local contracted growers.

Today the winery manages 12 parcels across four sites in Yamanashi Prefecture, totaling approximately two hectares, including the Komazono vineyard, which contains old Koshu vines estimated to be more than 80 years old. Taking advantage of Yamanashi's varied natural environments at elevations from 280 to 620 meters, it grows Koshu, six European varieties, and five Japanese-bred varieties.

Annual production is approximately 35,000 bottles of Japanese wine.

Concept

Winemaking in harmony with the principles of nature — “Tao: the Way.”

The taste of wine is determined by the grapes, and the character of those grapes changes greatly according to the vineyard and the weather of each year.

The winery values each encounter with the grapes of a particular vineyard and vintage as something unique and unrepeatable.

Viticulture follows biologique, or organic, principles. Cover crops help maintain healthy soil conditions, while balanced vines are cultivated in ways adapted to the natural environment of each vineyard. By strengthening the vitality of the vines, the winery aims to grow concentrated, flavorful grapes.

In the cellar, a consistently neutral yeast is used so that the character of the grapes remains at the center of the wine.

Wines of Komazono Vineyard

Komazono Vineyard makes wines that highlight the delicate, gentle flavors of grapes nurtured by Yamanashi's climate and terroir.

These are genuine Japanese wines made from 100% Yamanashi-grown grapes, centered on fruit carefully cultivated in the winery's own vineyards.

They are wines intended to make food, conversation, and the time shared around the table even more enjoyable.
