A Focus on Clones
Mr. Yokomachi's vineyards, measuring approximately 1.3 hectares and another 70 ares, are notable for the wide variety of planting material they contain.
Cabernet Sauvignon alone is grown from three clones, Merlot from six, Syrah from two, Shiraz from two, and Pinot Noir from no fewer than nine different clones.
The vineyard also includes unusual material imported from overseas, such as a Sauvignon Blanc Château d'Yquem clone and a Muscat-type Chardonnay clone.
In the near future, they are also considering vinifying wines separately by clone.
