Recently, among sophisticated adults accustomed to enjoying the Aoyama area, a venue has been quietly causing a buzz:W AOYAMA -The Cellar & Grill-
And for good reason—the restaurant recently celebrated its grand reopening in May after upgrading its food menu and wine lineup.
Still, Aoyama is a fiercely competitive neighborhood packed with new venues. So why is this spot drawing crowds night after night?
We investigated the reasons behind its popularity and why it continues to attract a sophisticated crowd.
CHAPTER 01
Enjoy 350 to 400 Varieties of Wine from the Adjacent Cellar in a BYO Style
The venue combines the wine shop 'The Cellar' with the restaurant 'The Grill.'
Inside the cellar, you'll find a constantly stocked selection of 350 to 400 wines from diverse regions—ranging from classic winemaking regions in France and Italy to New World wines from California, Chile, and, of course, Japanese wine.
Guests can freely choose whatever bottle they wish to drink, and enjoy it at their table for the retail price plus a corkage fee of 900 yen per bottle.
Those who frequently order bottled wine at restaurants will be particularly amazed by how great a value this system offers.
If you find yourself overwhelmed by the vast selection, we recommend asking manager Mr. Maeda or the knowledgeable wine staff to help you pick the perfect bottle.
Of course, you can also stop by just to buy wine as a retail customer.
The shop opens at 3:00 PM, making it a great spot to pick up trendy, seasonal wines to drink at home, bring as a gift for a dinner party, or give as a present.
CHAPTER 02
Stylish Dishes Designed to Pair with Wines from Around the World
Made with domestic ingredients—focusing on produce and meats from Ibaraki Prefecture—and prepared with meticulous cooking methods, the 'wine-friendly dishes' are not only delicious but also visually stunning. They beautifully elevate any evening table centered around wine, satisfying both your appetite and your mood.
Here are the dishes recommended by manager Mr. Maeda during our interview, along with the Japanese wine pairings he suggested for each.
• Seafood Platter (5-type assortment) ×Tamba Wine (Kyoto) / Semillon & Sauvignon Blanc

・Grilled Flounder × Grilled Chicken × Yamazaki Winery (Hokkaido) / Chardonnay Barrel Fermentation

・Lemon Butter Sauce ×Camel Farm Winery (Hokkaido) / Pinot Noir

CHAPTER 03
Interior & Hours Tailored for Adults
The restaurant opens its doors at 18:00, with last entry at 1:00 AM! You can enjoy yourself late into the night.
The wine cellar opens at 15:00.
It's a great spot to keep in mind not only for dates and dinner meetings, but also as a second or third stop for the evening.
Enjoying wine for two at the counter while gazing at the gentle flames of the grill; relaxing with wine on a sofa under soft lighting—something a woman in her mid-40s out late at night, like myself, deeply appreciates; or gathering at a large table for endless conversation over wine...
Seating is available to accommodate a wide variety of occasions.
Why not drop by for a wonderful evening of drinking wine?
Passing the speakeasy sign and opening the heavy, jet-black door marks the beginning of your sophisticated evening.
