Starting Tuesday, September 6, 2022, "Château Mercian Shiojiri Merlot 2019" and "Château Mercian Hosaka Koshu Essence 2020" will be released from the "Château Mercian" brand, which holds the vision of "making Japan one of the world's renowned wine-producing regions."
Here are the details.
About "Château Mercian Shiojiri Merlot 2019"
"Château Mercian Shiojiri Merlot 2019" is a red wine characterized by elegant, soft tannins, made using Merlot from the Shiojiri district of Nagano Prefecture, including "Kikyogahara Vineyard" and "Kataoka Vineyard."
It is a bottle offering a well-balanced impression of solid fruitiness and spicy aromas, fresh acidity, and rich tannins.
Grape cultivation has been conducted in the Shiojiri district of Nagano Prefecture since the Meiji period, and cultivation of the Merlot variety began in 1976 together with contract growers who resonated with the vision of Usuke Asai (Shogo Asai), known as the "father of modern Japanese wine."
Today, it has become one of Japan's leading Merlot production areas.
About "Château Mercian Hosaka Koshu Essence 2020"
From various producing regions, "Koshu" from the Hosaka district was selected, where grapes with a particularly excellent balance of acidity and sugar can be harvested.
It is the only sweet white wine from "Château Mercian," finished with a sweet profile through a method of freezing the grape juice to concentrate its components.
It features a special flavor where complex aromas of orange marmalade, apricot, Earl Grey, and honey can be sensed, while pleasant acidity and rich sweetness reminiscent of ripe fruit spread across the palate.
It has also earned high acclaim abroad, such as winning a Gold Award in the Wine Awards category at the "Hong Kong International Wine & Spirit Competition 2021," entered prior to the wine's release.
Keep an eye on the new wines!
Around September, various wineries begin introducing new wines to the market one after another.
The autumn of 2022 is also shaping up to be an exciting time for Japanese wine.
