Château Mercian to Release Fourth “Pacific Link Project” Wines on July 14

On Tuesday, July 14, Château Mercian will release “Koshu Amicis 2025” and “Château Mercian Nihon no Awa Koshu Amicis Traditional Method 2024.”

The wines are the fourth releases from the “Pacific Link Project.”

About the “Pacific Link Project”

The “Pacific Link Project” is a collaborative winemaking initiative between Mercian Corporation and Viña Concha y Toro.

For the third project wine released last year, “Château Mercian Koshu Amicis 2024,” the two companies began new vineyard-level collaboration including discussions and guidance on viticulture, while focusing the winemaking on “umami and lingering finish,” concepts increasingly important in recent Japanese food and beverage trends.

Building on last year's results and seeking new possibilities for Koshu, an indigenous Japanese grape variety, this year the project will release both “Château Mercian Koshu Amicis 2025” and “Château Mercian Nihon no Awa Koshu Amicis Traditional Method 2024.”

About the New Wines

Two wines are being released.

“Château Mercian Koshu Amicis 2025” is a white wine made from Japan's indigenous Koshu variety, characterized by mellow Japanese-citrus flavors reminiscent of mikan and kumquat balanced by refreshing acidity.

“Château Mercian Nihon no Awa Koshu Amicis Traditional Method 2024” is a sparkling wine combining mellow Japanese-citrus flavor, refreshing acidity, and fine bubbles.

Made from Koshu and aged on the lees after secondary fermentation in bottle, it develops umami and a layered, full-bodied character.

It features vivid aromas of citrus such as kabosu and grapefruit together with white peach.

The two releases offer an intriguing glimpse at new possibilities for Japanese wine.

Consider checking them out.
