ABOUT

The “bocchi” in Vin de la Bocchi means being alone.

Each person’s strength may be small, but when gathered together it can eventually bear great fruit.

Along with wine made 100% from Kanazawa-grown grapes raised in nature-rich Tawaramachi, we share the appeal of the satoyama.

FEATURE STORY

About the Winery

The winery, which serves as the center for vinification, storage, and maturation, was completed in the summer of 2020, marking the start of in-house winemaking. It stands on elevated ground overlooking the city of Kanazawa, and on clear days the Sea of Japan can be seen in the distance. The winery also hosts the “Tawaramachi Marche,” where rice and vegetables grown in Tawaramachi are sold.

Origin of the Brand

The logo combines motifs of a rice bale—“tawara,” from Tawaramachi—and grapes. Vin de la bocchi means “Bocchi’s wine.” The name was given by Toyoo Tamamura, founder of Villa d’Est Gardenfarm and Winery. Even if each person’s strength is small, together those efforts can eventually bear great fruit.\n\n— Preserving the beauty of satoyama for future generations —\n\nThe beautiful satoyama landscape is a treasure lovingly maintained by generations of local people. By borrowing land that has become difficult to maintain as the community ages and cultivating grapes there, the winery helps preserve the satoyama of Tawaramachi.

Wine That Comfortably Complements the Moment

Vin de la bocchi farm & winery wants to offer more than wine: delicious bottles made entirely from European grape varieties grown in Kanazawa, enjoyed with food and good times shared among friends. The winery minimizes the use of chemical pesticides and additives wherever possible and carefully crafts wines on a scale it can closely oversee, designed to pair naturally with Kanazawa’s rich cuisine. Enjoy an indulgent marriage of Kanazawa-grown wine and ingredients from Hokuriku—and safe, delicious wine made by producers whose faces you can see.

No.14 Chardonnay

The label features a blue-toned swimming crab motif whose fresh colors perfectly match the character of the wine.\n\nThe wine is marked by refreshing aromas of green apple and lemongrass. Use a smaller glass to emphasize its acidity and fruit, or a larger glass to enjoy its more expansive bouquet and lingering finish.

No.15 Bocchi Rosé

The label features a Japanese giant salamander, inspired by one we happened to encounter at the Kyoto Aquarium.

This refreshing wine combines sweet-tart aromas of plum and cherry with a nuance reminiscent of sakura mochi, a traditional Japanese confection. Light on the palate, it is especially recommended for a picnic on the lawn.
