Château Mercian to Begin Exports to Italy in Mid-November!

Mercian Corporation's Japanese wine brand Château Mercian will begin exports to Italy in mid-November 2023, following the United States, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the United Kingdom.

Here are the details.

About Italy

Italy is one of the world's major wine countries and ranks second globally in wine consumption.

In recent years, ethics, sustainability, and safety have become increasingly important in food, and more consumers are paying close attention to product stories and producers' philosophies.

Interest in Japanese culture and cuisine has grown since Expo Milano 2015, and the number of Japanese restaurants in Italy reportedly increased dramatically from 630 in 2015 to more than 30,000 in 2021.

About Exports to Italy

Château Mercian is internationally recognized as a winery committed to sustainable winemaking, and both its Japanese wines and winemaking practices have attracted attention overseas.

The decision to begin exports follows growing interest in Japanese culture and cuisine in Italy and recognition of the brand's sustainable winemaking—which aligns with Italian consumer needs—by Gabriele Gorelli, Italy's first Master of Wine, who evaluated and recommended the wines.

By beginning exports to Italy, the company hopes to communicate the value of its wines to the world.
