Cave d’Occi Co., Ltd., a winery with strong support among Japanese wine fans, is publishing “Sunayama,” a newly written novel by Banana Yoshimoto set at a winery, on April 1, 2026.
Here are the details.
Cave d’Occi Writers in Residence
Banana Yoshimoto’s novel “Sunayama” is part of Cave d’Occi’s “Cave d’Occi Writers in Residence” project.
Under the project, a writer stays at Cave d’Occi, writes a story set there, and Cave d’Occi handles publishing, book design and sales.
The first installment, published in 2023, was Maha Harada’s “Tabi o Akirameru ni wa Mada Hayai Tomo e no Tegami,” and “Sunayama” is the second installment.
About “Sunayama”
“Sunayama” tells the story of two young men who share the experience of having lost their parents.
There are no rules governing whom a person may love, and love can take many forms.
The protagonist comes to realize something important at a winery that grows grapes in sandy soil.
The book design again involves book director Yoshitaka Haba, with the cover colors expressing the fragility, gentleness and relaxed quality suggested by the title.
A third installment featuring a novel by Riku Onda is also currently in preparation.
Why not take this opportunity to pick up a novel born at a winery?
