Mercian Corporation will release “Château Mercian Koshu Kiiroka Un Hommage à Taka 2024” on Tuesday, June 17.

The wine commemorates the 20th anniversary of the release of Château Mercian Koshu Kiiroka 2004, which expanded the possibilities of Japan’s indigenous Koshu grape.

Here are the details.

About “Château Mercian Koshu Kiiroka Un Hommage à Taka 2024”

The wine was created to mark the 20th anniversary of Château Mercian Koshu Kiiroka 2004.

It is a special cuvée dedicated to the late Dr. Takaaki Tominaga of Bordeaux University II, who provided technical guidance when Kiiroka 2004 was developed. The wine highlights the citrus aromas and lively acidity he valued.

Style and flavor

“Château Mercian Koshu Kiiroka Un Hommage à Taka 2024” is a white wine made from Koshu, a grape variety indigenous to Japan.

With careful attention to harvest timing, the wine is designed to maximize Koshu’s grapefruit-like aromatic compounds and emphasize citrus character and acidity.

It offers aromas reminiscent of Japanese citrus such as kabosu and sudachi as well as grapefruit peel, harmonized with generous acidity.

The label illustration comes from the picture book “Itoshii Kotori Kiiro,” modeled on the late Dr. Tominaga.

A message left by Dr. Tominaga is also printed on the label.
