About “Citadelles du Vin”

The international wine competition “Citadelles du Vin” is a prestigious competition founded in 1992 in Bordeaux, France, under the patronage of the “O.I.V. (International Organisation of Vine and Wine).”

Judging is conducted by experts, including top-level oenologists recommended by the O.I.V., who award Gold and Silver Medals as well as special country prizes.

About the Award-Winning Wine

The wine that won the Silver Medal at this wine competition was “Château Mercian Hokushin Chardonnay 2019.”

This special white wine was produced by fermenting, parcel by parcel, “Chardonnay” harvested from vertical shoot-positioned vineyards located in the Hokushin area along the Chikuma River basin in northern Nagano Prefecture, and well-balancing the distinctive base wines from each district.

It offers nuances of ripe fruits such as pineapple and grapefruit.

It is said to be a bottle where one can enjoy excellent balance and complexity, with aromas of vanilla, hazelnut, and almond derived from fermentation and subsequent aging in oak barrels harmonizing well.

Incidentally, “Château Mercian Hokushin Chardonnay” is an internationally acclaimed wine whose 2017 vintage won a Gold Medal at “Citadelles du Vin 2019” and also a Gold Medal at the “43rd Challenge International du Vin 2019.”

It may well be a pioneering bottle that conveys the charm of Japanese wine Chardonnay to the world.
