A winery on a gentle hill in Iizuna Town, Nagano Prefecture. A beautiful landscape reminiscent of rural France unfolds around it, time flows slowly, and wine and jam are made here.

FEATURE STORY

A Winery at the Heart of Rural Culture

The idea of making wine began with a trip to France by the founding couple.\n\nThey were struck by the richness of the French countryside and the mature culture that unfolded at an unhurried pace. Even in remote rural areas, world-class wines and ciders were being made, and local people took great pride in living there.\n\nDeeply moved by that experience, they later met the mayor of Samizu Village and shared their vision. The village offered full support in helping make that dream a reality.\n\nSt.Cousair Winery obtained a trial winemaking license in 1988 and has continued to develop grape growing and winemaking ever since.

About the Estate Vineyards

St.Cousair’s estate vineyards are divided into three areas.\n\nDistinctive grapes are harvested from Chapel Vineyard, Totaniyamine Vineyard and Winery Vineyard, including steep, sunny and well-drained slopes in front of the winery restaurant.\n\nTotal area: 10 hectares (6 ha planted)\nNumber of vines: 12,000 (capacity approx. 15,000)\n\nA variety of wildlife appears in the vineyards, including pheasants, copper pheasants and young foxes. Around flowering season, small birds even build nests and lay eggs in the vines.

St.Cousair Winery Restaurant

St.Cousair Winery Restaurant is a European-style restaurant.\n\nThe building was modeled on an auberge run by an artist couple outside Barcelona, Spain, and was designed to symbolize a warm rural resort.\n\nFrom here, guests can look out over gently contoured mountains and peaceful farmland, with trellised vineyards stretching beautifully below the windows.\n\nStep away from the bustle of everyday life and enjoy a relaxed, comfortable moment.\n\nCountry Comfort\n\nBringing the bounty of the countryside and quality time to the table.

St.Cousair Winery Main Store

The main store is surrounded by trellised vineyards and spacious green gardens.\n\nIt sells wines and ciders made on this hill, along with jams, pasta sauces, seasonings, sweets, imported foods, tableware, miscellaneous goods and ciders available only at the main store.\n\nWine tasting is also available.\n\nEvents are held throughout the year in the garden and delicatessen, allowing visitors to enjoy the beautiful scenery of each season.
