ABOUT

Rue de Vin breathes new life into abandoned farmland,

planting and nurturing grapevines to restore it as productive farmland, and beginning to make wine...

FEATURE STORY

about

Tōmi City, Nagano Prefecture. Gentle slopes opening up along the Chikuma River.

This area was once a vast apple orchard. Rue de Vin began planting and cultivating grapevines, and making wine, with the aim of breathing life back into the neglected farmland and restoring its richness.

The dry wind blowing up the slopes, the abundant sunshine, and the significant temperature difference between day and night create conditions from which great wines may one day be born.

Just as the Côte d'Or in Burgundy, France, we dream of the day when this will be called Japan's "Golden Hill."

The Winery’s Origins

Rue de Vin Winery was built in 2010, and wine production began in December of that year. The following year, the winery’s first wines from its own vineyards were released.

Sharing the Experience of Winemaking

The winery wants many people to feel the joy of making wine and therefore also welcomes vinification on consignment. It supports people who want to try making wine, from small individual lots upward.

Aiming to Become a Japanese “Wine Estate”

What Rue de Vin seeks is the ability to consistently handle everything from growing the grapes to making the wine. By cultivating grapes on its own land and vinifying them itself, it aims to express the character of the place through wine.
