ABOUT

We want to pass the satoyama landscape where grapes grow on to the future.

Muryu Winery was born from an aspiration that could never be achieved alone.

The setting is Zuiryu-cho, Hitachiota City, a grape-growing community with more than fifty years of history.

Together with craftspeople, local residents and people drawn to Zuiryu,

we share the depth of making delicious wine beginning in the vineyard and continue nurturing a circle of people that will connect a hundred years into the future.

FEATURE STORY

About Buryu Winery

Buryu Winery is located in Hitachiota, a city in northern Ibaraki Prefecture.

Set against the naturally rich Abukuma Mountains, the city can also be visited on a day trip from Tokyo.

In addition to this winery, there are around 50 tourist grape farms in the city, which become lively with visitors enjoying grape picking from late August through early October.

The winery operates a shop at Midori Kaoru Seiryu no Sato.

Winery tours with tastings are also available by reservation, so consider visiting to enjoy the scenery and fresh air of the satoyama countryside.

There are charms here that can only be understood by making the trip.

Wines of Buryu Winery

The climate of Zuiryu and the knowledge handed down by earlier generations have nurtured high-quality table grapes suitable even for gifts.

Using wine grapes grown in that tradition, the winery's craftspeople turn them into flavorful wines.

● “Hitachi no Megumi” Rosé 750 ml

An elegant rosé made from Muscat Bailey A grown in Ibaraki Prefecture. Carefully selected grapes provide firm acidity and a refined taste. Fresh, fruity aromas and a smooth texture make it ideal as an aperitif or with a meal. True to the name “Hitachi no Megumi” (“Blessings of Hitachi”), the character of grapes nurtured by Ibaraki's climate and natural environment shapes the wine's flavor.

● “Hitachi no Megumi” White 750 ml

This white wine is based on a richly flavored Kyoho wine made by carefully selecting fresh Kyoho grapes from Ibaraki and handling every step from pressing through fermentation and maturation with care, then blending in Muscat Bailey A vinified as a white wine. It has floral, citrus-like aromas, restrained acidity, and a fresh, juicy balance of fruit flavor. Easy to drink, it is designed to pair with Japanese home cooking, light snacks, dishes made with Ibaraki vegetables, fish carpaccio, and other refreshing appetizers.

● “Ashita no Wine” 750 ml

A wine created through a joint cultivation project with Ibaraki Prefectural Hitachiota Special Needs School. Students take part in vineyard work throughout the year, including fertilizing, mowing, and bagging the fruit. In autumn they harvest the grapes themselves, and third-year high school students participate in the winemaking work.

The wine has a beautiful deep ruby color, a rich flavor, a soft texture, and distinctive sweet aromas and fruitiness. Filled with the care of many people, it is a special wine to enjoy with someone important to you.

These and the winery's other wines express the terroir of Ibaraki Prefecture and Hitachiota. They can be purchased at the winery shop or online.
