About Yokohama Kajitsu Jozo
Yokohama Kajitsu Jozo is a winery working to create wines unique to the area, mainly using off-grade “Hama-nashi” pears that have long been popular in Yokohama and grapes grown in the city.
Although Yokohama is widely known as a port city, urban-edge agriculture remains active there. At the same time, the city faces a number of challenges, including a declining agricultural workforce, the use of off-grade produce, and the continuation of local farming.
Yokohama Kajitsu Jozo is giving new value to off-grade Hama-nashi pears that had not previously been fully utilized, promoting a circular use of local resources by turning them into wine.
Through partnerships with local farmers, businesses, and government, the winery also plans to contribute to revitalizing agriculture in Yokohama.
Future Lineup and Plans
Looking ahead, Yokohama Kajitsu Jozo plans to pursue community-based initiatives including growing grapes in its own vineyard, introducing a membership club, and establishing a restaurant using ingredients from the surrounding area.
It also aims to develop its fruit wines into products that naturally complement Yokohama’s food culture and celebrations, eventually becoming a representative drink of the city.
The lineup scheduled to launch from early autumn is as follows:
・HAMANASHI PETILLANT 2025 (Hama-nashi pétillant, lightly sparkling)
・HAMANASHI BLANC 2026 (Hama-nashi blanc, off-dry)
・Cabernet Sauvignon “Clairet” 2025 (Cabernet Sauvignon Clairet, red wine)
A new winery has been born in Yokohama.
Be sure to check it out.
