Watami Organic Land Co., Ltd., marking its 4th year of grape cultivation, conducted a grape harvest at "Rikuzentakata Watami Organic Land."
The first shipment of wine made from grapes grown at Organic Land is scheduled for next March.
About "Rikuzentakata Watami Organic Land"
"Rikuzentakata Watami Organic Land" is a theme park that opened on April 29, 2021, in Rikuzentakata City, Iwate Prefecture, as an organic theme park centered around the theme of an organic, circular society.
Since its opening, Watami Organic Land has been engaged in an initiative to make wine from zero as a business symbolizing the reconstruction of Rikuzentakata City.
With the goal of achieving a sixth-sector industrialization combining grape production (primary sector), processing (secondary sector), and sales (tertiary sector), grapes are cultivated using restricted root zone cultivation (pot cultivation), a method that allows growing even with small amounts of soil.
About the Grape Harvest
This year marks the 4th year of grape cultivation for Watami Organic Land.
Approximately 160 kg of grapes were reportedly harvested during this harvest.
The harvested grapes will be custom-crushed at a winery within the prefecture (Ofunato City), and wine made with grapes from Watami Organic Land is scheduled to be born for the first time in March.
The completed wine will be delivered to members of the "Making Wine from Zero Club."
Let us look forward to seeing what kind of wine it turns out to be and its future prospects.
