Tsukuba Farm Co., Ltd. will open Shihodo Winery in October 2026.
The new winery will handle the entire process from growing wine grapes to making and selling wine.
About Tsukuba Farm Co., Ltd.
Tsukuba Farm Co., Ltd. operates an agricultural business at the foot of Mt. Tsukuba, centered on the production of the local branded rice “Hitachi Oda Rice.” The company has also actively pursued sixth-sector industrialization by processing and selling the agricultural products it grows.
It has already developed the “LA VORO” Baumkuchen brand using rice flour made from its own rice, taking on the challenge of creating new value through agriculture.
Now, the company is making productive use of fields that had not been fully utilized and entering the winery business, from cultivating wine grapes to vinification and sales.
About Shihodo Winery
Shihodo Winery is being established under Tsukuba City’s special wine-production zone program.
By making use of the distinctive climate, soil and local environment at the foot of Mt. Tsukuba, the winery aims to produce wines with a character unique to the area and create a new regional brand.
Winemaking at Shihodo Winery will be handled by staff who trained under Shun Minowa, a natural-wine producer active in Italy, learning both winemaking techniques and the philosophy of natural wine.
The team hopes to respect the individuality created each year by the climate, soil and microbial environment, and to make wines that express the terroir at the foot of Mt. Tsukuba.
A new winery is finally joining the Tsukuba wine scene.
We look forward to seeing how it develops.
