“Mercian Fujisawa Plant” Introduces Solar Power Generation via PPA Model Starting March 2023!

Mercian Corporation introduced solar-generated power via a PPA model at its “Mercian Fujisawa Plant” starting in March 2023.

Through this initiative, it will reduce annual GHG4 emissions by approximately 124 tons, while increasing the renewable energy ratio of the entire company's electricity consumption from the current level of approximately 5% to approximately 8%.

Here are the details.

About Mercian Fujisawa Plant

The Mercian Fujisawa Plant is a production facility located in Fujisawa City, Kanagawa Prefecture.

It is responsible for producing core daily wine lines such as the “Delicious Antioxidant-Free Wine” series and the “Bistro” series, manufacturing approximately 90% of all the company's products.

First Utilization of Solar Power Through PPA Model Introduction

The company has already switched 100% of the electricity purchased at all wineries producing the Japanese wine “Château Mercian” to renewable energy, but this marks its first time utilizing solar-generated electricity through the introduction of a PPA model.

PPA stands for Power Purchase Agreement, and the PPA model is a business model in which a PPA operator installs solar power generation equipment on the premises or rooftops of an electricity consumer free of charge and sells the power generated there to the consumer.

Under the PPA model introduced this time, MCKB Energy Service Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Corporation Clean Energy Ltd., serves as the PPA operator and installs large-capacity solar power generation equipment at the Mercian Fujisawa Plant.

Mercian will then purchase and utilize the electricity generated there.
