The production of an original sparkling wine looks set to begin in earnest.

About the Sports Open Innovation Promotion Project
The Sports Open Innovation Promotion Project is an initiative organized by the Japan Sports Agency.
It promotes open innovation in the field of sports through partnerships between sports and other industries, utilizing acceleration programs and other initiatives to create value-added services and solve local and social challenges.
Targeting co-creation entities formed by sports organizations and businesses such as startups, it advances projects from the generation and refinement of business ideas to demonstration over a co-creation period of about 6 months.
This time, PFU BlueCats Ishikawa Kahoku's initiative to take on the challenge of making an original sparkling wine using Kahoku City's specialty "Takamatsu grapes" was selected.
About the Wine Project
PFU BlueCats Ishikawa Kahoku is a women's volleyball team with Kahoku City, Ishikawa Prefecture, as its hometown, competing in the "Daidoh Life SV.LEAGUE," which opened in October 2024 and aims to be the world's premier league.
With the team serving as the distributor, it will take on the challenge of making an original sparkling wine using Kahoku City's specialty "Takamatsu grapes."
In cooperation with "Ishikawa Kahoku Agricultural Cooperative (JA Ishikawa Kahoku)," the "Takamatsu Grape Producers Association," and "Kahoku City," the raw material grapes will utilize grapes that were previously discarded during cluster thinning (thinning out) operations.
Through this project, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to earthquake recovery relief funds for the 2024 Noto Peninsula Earthquake, while the team also aims to be a community-rooted professional volleyball team loved by the local region.
Let us eagerly look forward to seeing what kind of original sparkling wine will be created.
