OcciGabi Winery, described as Japan’s most beautiful winery, has begun drilling for a hot spring as it works toward developing lodging facilities powered by renewable energy.
The winery plans to build facilities to pump the hot spring and supply the water to a new hotel, or lodging wing, that it intends to construct.

About OcciGabi Winery
OcciGabi Winery opened in Yoichi, Hokkaido, after the town was designated Hokkaido’s first national “Wine Special Zone” in 2012, with the goal of making Yoichi Japan’s leading wine town. It is now one of Japan’s notable producers of Japanese wine.
Thirteen years have passed since the launch of the business scheme for a regional-development hub centered on grape growing and the production and sale of Japanese wine. Today the winery has eight hectares of estate vineyards with one of Japan’s finest landscapes, a restaurant overlooking the vines, and underground winemaking facilities including a tank room, barrel cellar and bottle cellar, producing more than 70,000 bottles annually.
About the Start of Hot-Spring Drilling
OcciGabi Winery’s new initiative is the development of environmentally conscious bathing facilities that use renewable energy while also reducing operating costs.
Drilling to a depth of approximately 1,200 meters has already been completed on the planned site. In April, the winery plans to conduct a pumping test to draw up hot-spring water and collect samples for inspection and analysis.
Plans include not only open-air baths and other hot-spring bathing services, but also a main hotel, or lodging wing, with hot-spring facilities, an esthetic salon and a restaurant. The goal is to create higher-quality tourism through use of the bathing complex.
