Extremely Rare: Wines Made by Top New Zealand Winemakers Go on Limited Sale from December 10

Hokkaido is now attracting worldwide attention as a wine-producing region.

Leading winemakers from New Zealand, one of the world’s great wine countries, have made wines at Hokkaido SPACE Winery using grapes grown in Hokkaido.

The wines will go on sale from Tuesday, December 10.

Here are the details.

WORLD WineGrowers Series

The wines being released by Hokkaido SPACE Winery are part of the WORLD WineGrowers series.

Making use of Hokkaido SPACE Winery’s shared-winery model, where winemaking facilities can be used by different producers, the project invited winemakers from New Zealand to make wine from Japanese grapes.

・Theo Coles / The Hermit Ram
・Gavin Tait / Grey Stone / Muddy Water Wines
・Taka Koyama / TAKA K Wines

These leading New Zealand producers have crafted exceptionally special wines using grapes from Hokkaido.

Made with Kerner, in Three Distinct Winemaking Styles

The grape variety used for this project is Hokkaido-grown Kerner.

Each of the three winemakers tasted wines made from Kerner grown in Hokkaido and Germany, deepened their understanding of the variety, and then decided on their own stylistic direction and winemaking approach.

It is often said that wine begins with the grapes, but this series also offers a chance to experience how every decision made by the winemaker during vinification plays an important role in shaping the final wine.

Sales are being handled by Arc Cellars Co., Ltd., and the wines will also be available through the official MARO Wines online shop.

Online sales are scheduled to begin at 19:00 on December 10.

Only 30 sets will be available, at an open price.
