Starting Monday, July 1st, Mandarin Oriental, Tokyo will begin offering its private brand red wine, "Mandarin Oriental, Tokyo 2020 Hayabusa" (hereafter "Hayabusa").

A noteworthy item limited to just 285 bottles.

Let us share the details.

About "Hayabusa"

"Hayabusa" is a red wine packed with the charm of Muscat Bailey A.

Brewed at "MGVs Winery" located in Katsunuma, Yamanashi Prefecture, it is a must-see bottle for Japanese wine fans.

The Muscat Bailey A harvested from vineyards in the Hayabusa district of Makioka-cho, Yamanashi City, Yamanashi Prefecture—which is also the origin of the wine's name—is characterized by elegant acidity and high ripeness born from the terroir of this land.

Harvested in 2020, the Muscat Bailey A was slowly aged in French oak barrels for 32 months, reportedly resulting in a memorable wine featuring an elegant, long finish accompanied by graceful vanilla aromas derived from the barrels.

About the Flavor

Regarding "Hayabusa," Akihiko Nosaka, Director of Wine at Mandarin Oriental, Tokyo, described it as: "Presenting a beautiful red color with a subtle purplish tint, diverse aromas such as ripe strawberries, cherries, peonies, and cloves unfold in multiple layers, with fine tannins and high-quality acidity harmonizing exquisitely. A charming and profound taste with a soft texture and a sophisticated finish."

Limited to 285 bottles, "Hayabusa" can reportedly be enjoyed at each of Mandarin Oriental, Tokyo's restaurants, bars, and lounges.

It is priced at 3,000 yen per glass and 19,000 yen per full bottle.
