An Industry First! Madeira Wine Cask Finished Awamori "shimmer#15 Sennen no Hibiki 16 Years MadeiraWine Cask Finish" Makes Its Debut!

When it comes to alcoholic beverages that Japan proudly presents to the world, awamori is one of them.

Awamori is enjoyed by many Japanese wine fans as well, and now an industry-first awamori finished in Madeira wine casks has been released.

Here are the details.

About the Industry-First Awamori

"shimmer#15 Sennen no Hibiki 16 Years MadeiraWine Cask Finish" is an awamori finished in Madeira wine casks.

This product is an awamori crafted through a collaboration between Nantou Shuhan Co., Ltd., an alcoholic beverage wholesaler in Okinawa Prefecture, and Nakijin Shuzo Co., Ltd.

Nakijin Shuzo's rare 16-year barrel-aged kusu (aged awamori) underwent secondary maturation (cask finishing) in barrels that previously held "Madeira wine," a fortified wine produced on the Madeira Islands of Portugal.

This Madeira wine cask finished awamori is an industry-first endeavor, paying homage to the historical connection between awamori and Madeira wine.

A Bottle Paying Homage to Tradition

Approximately 170 years ago, Commodore Perry visited Okinawa.

Records reportedly remain showing that he enjoyed both awamori and Madeira wine at that time, and "shimmer#15 Sennen no Hibiki 16 Years MadeiraWine Cask Finish" was crafted to honor that tradition.

This product is scheduled for limited release in the winter of 2023.

Detailed information and the latest updates regarding the product's release date will be announced as they become available on the official shimmer online website and social media accounts.
