"KAORIUM" is an AI system developed by SCENTMATIC that mutually translates between scents and words.
Through cutting-edge technology, it is a system that makes it possible to visualize vague, elusive scent impressions into words, or derive scents associated with a given word.
It was launched in December 2020 as a sommelier AI that verbalizes the flavor profiles of sake; however, with many requests to support wine—which, like sake, offers an extensive variety—and because an "AI that verbalizes scents" has great affinity with wine where aromas and flavors are prized, this demonstration experiment came to fruition.
"KAORIUM" in Wine
The sommelier AI "KAORIUM for Sake," newly adapted for wine, is an AI system capable of matching human sensibilities with wine through natural language processing.
It calculates the match between wines available in store and desired moods such as "wanting to unwind" or "wanting to get energized," as well as preferred taste profiles such as "fruity" or "rich and full-bodied," recommending compatible labels.
The customer service experience of "enjoyable beverage selection tailored to human sensibilities," which was previously only possible for experienced and intuitive sommeliers, can now be realized right in store.
Furthermore, beyond simply choosing by mood or taste, it realizes the visualization of wine flavor profiles using an extensive database of flavor expressions accumulated by AI.
Rather than vague descriptions like "sweet wine," it displays concrete "flavor maps" for each label, such as a beverage with flavor notes like "rich" or "plum," making it easier to select a wine to your liking.
