In March 2025, a “world's smallest urban winery” opened at Hotel New Otani Hakata.
Here's a look at what kind of winery it is.
Offering “Totono-u Fruit Wine”
The new urban winery was created by Kyoho Winery, a fruit-wine producer based in Kurume City, Fukuoka Prefecture.
It opened inside Brain Fatigue SPA B-Labo, a social-issue-oriented salon at Hotel New Otani Hakata, and measures just 3.1 square meters.
Under the supervision of brain-fatigue researcher Takehiko Fujino, the winery offers fruit wines made generously with premium Fukuoka fruits such as Kyoho grapes and Amaou strawberries, presented as multisensory relaxation beverages centered on aroma, taste, and a sense of balance and refreshment.
Examples of Products
Some of the products available include:
Amaou Sparkling (lightly sparkling)
Made with 100% Fukuoka-grown Amaou strawberries. A vivid red drink with rich sweet Amaou aromas, a mellow palate, and gentle bubbles, ideal for refreshment.
Kyoho Gravity (non-alcoholic)
A juice made from Kyoho grapes after fermentation pressing, rich in pentapeptides said to support brain function. Designed to maximize the aroma of Kyoho grapes, it is produced only in limited quantities each year. Its concentrated fermentation-derived flavor is intended to offer a soothing experience.
Brewed Beverage with Plasmalogen (in preparation)
Currently being developed for health-conscious consumers around the theme of “rebooting the brain and body.”
Future plans include pop-up locations at Fukuoka Dome, airports and department stores; publication of research data on brain fatigue and aroma in collaboration with academic institutions; and projects combining fruit wine, art, and relaxing spaces.
