Takeda Ham Co., Ltd., which has long maintained integrated ham production in Habikino, Osaka, has collaborated with Otemon Gakuin University and the City of Habikino to develop new "Osaka-mon" ham and sausage products conceived by students.
The lineup includes products created in collaboration with wine, one of Habikino's local specialties.
Here are the details.
New "Osaka-mon" Ham and Sausage Products
The newly developed products are ham and sausages made with a strong commitment to being "Made in Osaka."
Students majoring in Management and Marketing in the Faculty of Management at Otemon Gakuin University took part in developing new signature products for Takeda Ham Co., Ltd., which has carried out integrated ham production in Habikino since 1954 as an Osaka-mon producer.
Three products were created in total, including collaborations with red shiso, a specialty of Ibaraki City where the university is located, and wine, a specialty of Habikino.
A Luxurious Ham Marinated in Wine Made from Habikino Grapes
The project began in June 2024 with 17 third-year students in Professor Suhyun Park's seminar, which specializes in marketing. The students tackled Takeda Ham's challenge of generating fresh ideas for new product development.
After studying the company, touring its production plant, and conducting field research in Habikino, the students sought to create new flavors while carrying on the Osaka-mon DNA that Takeda Ham has valued since its founding. They devised a "Luxury Ham" marinated in wine made from Habikino grapes and a sausage kneaded with red shiso, a specialty of Ibaraki City, called "Oishiso Sausage."
On January 16, an event booth will be set up at Seven Park Amami. Together with Habikino-based companies including CHOYA Umeshu Co., Ltd. and Asuka Wine Co., Ltd., the event will introduce and sell local products.
The products are also scheduled to be sold at Takeda Ham's corporate booth at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, beginning in April 2025, helping share the appeal of a new generation of Osaka-mon products with the world.
Japanese wine fans may also want to check out these new products in person.
