Awaji Nature Farm Co., Ltd. will open a "natural circular winery" around spring 2025, aiming to produce natural wine through organic farming.
The location is said to be near the sustainable garden "Awaji Nature Lab & Resort," operated by the company's group.
Here are the details.
About the "Natural Circular Winery"
Awaji Nature Farm has thus far adopted farming methods prioritizing natural circulation, contributing to regional environmental conservation and agricultural development.
At the soon-to-be-opened "Natural Circular Winery," viticulturist and winemaker Hirotake Ooka—who has crafted natural wines in France and earned global acclaim—has been welcomed as an advisor to produce wine with minimal environmental impact by maximizing the power of nature.
Establishing a Circular Agriculture Model
The winery will promote organic farming throughout the entire process from grape growing to winemaking, establishing a sustainable circular agriculture model that grows grapes using composted fertilizer derived from food waste and other resources generated on Awaji Island.
Furthermore, it will operate as an agritourism farm where visitors can experience the appeal of natural circular agriculture, promoting the appeal of wine as a local specialty through guided tours and wine tasting events, thereby contributing to the development of tourism across all of Awaji Island.
Additionally, the grape varieties grown will include special varieties such as "Rizan" and "Ryu-o," which were bred primarily from crimson glory vine (yamabudo) and are cultivated in only a few select areas in Japan.
