Brewing of 100% Kochi-Grown Wine Begins! New Vintage Release on October 3 (Tosa Day)!

The brewing of 100% Kochi-grown wine has begun again this year.

The release of the new vintage will take place on October 3 (Tosa Day) this year as well.

Let's take a closer look at the details.

About the Brewing of "100% Kochi-Grown Wine"

From grape cultivation to winemaking, "100% Kochi-Grown Wine" is crafted entirely within Kochi Prefecture.

Its brewing has begun again this year.

In Kochi Prefecture, where grape growing itself was said to be difficult, the entity that succeeded in winemaking is Inoue Winery Co., Ltd., whose parent company is Inoue Calcium Corporation, a company engaged in limestone manufacturing, distribution, research, and development.

Inoue Calcium Corporation is a limestone manufacturing company boasting top facilities in the prefecture.

According to the company, contributing to the local community, as well as their production of "Bordeaux mixture"—a lime-based agricultural chemical developed in France in 1885—were the catalysts that brought winemaking closer to mind.

After starting grape cultivation in Yamakita, Konan City, the mountain where limestone is extracted, and going through about 10 years of trial and error,

they finally succeeded in brewing a completely Kochi-grown wine in the autumn of 2021.

Right now, each vineyard is in the very midst of the harvest season.

The release date is once again October 3 (Tosa Day) this year.
