Umeshu Nouveau too! "Nakano Umeshu NOUVEAU" released on November 24!

Sake brewing company Nakano BC will release "Nakano Umeshu NOUVEAU" on Friday, November 24.

There are surely many Japanese wine fans who also love umeshu.

Here are the details.

How does it differ from regular umeshu?

For "Nakano Umeshu NOUVEAU," the steeping of ume plums (Nanko ume from Wakayama) began on June 6 of this year, and it is shipped as "shinshu" (new brew) before aging in tanks.

It features a fresh fruit flavor that lets you enjoy this year's ume crop, a fruity aroma of Nanko ume, and a clear, vibrant golden color unique to its unaged state.

In typical umeshu making, around this time—six months after steeping the ume—all the fruit is completely removed from the tank, and it is shipped after undergoing long-term aging inside the brewery for six months to 1 year.

On the other hand, "Nakano Umeshu NOUVEAU" is bottled immediately using the undiluted sake right after the ume plums are taken out of the tank.

Freshly made umeshu is shipped as Nakano Umeshu NOUVEAU.

Enjoying "authentic umeshu"

"Nakano Umeshu NOUVEAU" is an "authentic umeshu" made using only large Kishu Nanko ume plums.

It is committed to additive-free production, using no acidulants, colorings, or flavorings whatsoever.

In addition, on September 7, 2020, "Wakayama Umeshu," an umeshu made using ume from Wakayama Prefecture, was designated under the geographical indication (GI) system by which the government protects local brands of regional food and drink products.

Just like wine, they aim to use the name "Wakayama Umeshu" from now on and showcase its appeal across the country and overseas.

Please enjoy umeshu, a charming sake that Japan is proud of, in nouveau style.
