Pour room-temperature wine into the glass and it becomes properly chilled within minutes.
If your first thought is, “There can’t possibly be a magic glass like that,” it turns out there is.
It is the DIONYSOS Wine Freeze, a cooling glass made specifically for wine and sold by Life Expert Co., Ltd.
Pour in room-temperature white wine and this surprising glass can rapidly cool the liquid to below 5°C.
We put the DIONYSOS Wine Freeze to the test. With the warmer season approaching, when more white and even red wines taste especially good chilled, anyone looking for a useful wine accessory should take a look.
About the DIONYSOS Wine Freeze

DIONYSOS Wine Freeze is a dedicated wine-cooling glass sold by Life Expert Co., Ltd.
It was created to answer the wish: “Wouldn’t it be great if there were a real glass cooling vessel designed specifically for wine?”
One important feature is that the product is made from genuine glass rather than plastic.
Attention was paid not only to the pleasant feel when the rim touches your lips, but also to the clarity that makes wine look more beautiful in the glass.
As mentioned at the beginning, the standout feature is its ability to rapidly chill wine and other liquids to below 5°C after they are poured in.
It can also hold an appropriate drinking temperature for up to two hours, allowing you to take your time over a glass without losing the desired chill.
There are two main ways to use DIONYSOS Wine Freeze:
- 1. For white wine, freeze the cooling gel in a freezer at around -18°C
- 2. For red wine, chill the glass in a refrigerator at around 3°C without freezing the gel
For white wine, place the glass in a normal household freezer for at least three hours so the gel freezes.
It can be used not only for white wine but also for many other drinks.
Keeping it in a refrigerator at around 3°C creates a gentler cooling effect, which is particularly suitable for light-bodied red wines.
Because the position in which the gel freezes changes depending on whether the glass is stored upright, upside down, or at another angle, you can experiment with the freezing position you prefer.
Trying the DIONYSOS Wine Freeze

Can the DIONYSOS Wine Freeze really turn room-temperature white wine icy cold?
And can it keep red wine at a delicious serving temperature too?
We tried the glass ourselves.
Testing with White Wine

We tested the DIONYSOS Wine Freeze with room-temperature Chardonnay.
First, we tasted the wine at room temperature.
At the warmer temperature, it showed sweet tropical-fruit aromas and a round, weighty mouthfeel.
Next, we poured the wine into a DIONYSOS Wine Freeze that had been chilled in the freezer for about three hours.
The wine steadily cooled, and after five minutes it was already very cold.
The aroma shifted toward fresher tropical fruit and citrus nuances, the acidity became much clearer, and the overall impression quickly became more elegant.
Another advantage is that the glass continues to maintain the temperature, so even when you drink slowly you can retain the cold sensation of the first sip.

We paired the wine with a salad sushi roll, and the chilled serving temperature worked exceptionally well with the ingredients.
As the season warms, it makes you want to pair the wine with octopus carpaccio dressed with lemon, olive oil, black pepper, salt, and herbs; chilled pasta; or well-chilled pickles.
Testing with Red Wine

Next, we tested the glass with room-temperature Muscat Bailey A red wine.
We chose a lighter-bodied red that is also delicious when slightly chilled.
First, we tasted it at room temperature.
It showed sweet aromas reminiscent of strawberry and cotton candy, with the smooth mouthfeel and sweet-tart character typical of Muscat Bailey A.
We then poured the wine into a DIONYSOS Wine Freeze that had been chilled in the refrigerator for about two hours.
The temperature fell gently to a comfortable range without becoming excessively cold.
Fresh aromas of small red berries emerged along with a spicy impression.
The lower temperature made the acidity stand out more clearly, giving the wine a more elegant profile.
A slight tannic structure also became apparent, tightening the overall impression.

We paired the red wine with yakitori in tare sauce, and the match was excellent.
It also made us want to enjoy the wine with summer izakaya dishes, from richly flavored chilled snacks to yakitori coated in plenty of sweet-savory sauce.
DIONYSOS Wine Freeze Is a Must-Have Glass for Wine Fans

The appeal of DIONYSOS Wine Freeze is not only that it chills wine, but that it also keeps it cold.
Because it is made from genuine glass, the feel in the hand and the pleasant sensation at the lips can also enhance the enjoyment of the wine.
Although we focused on wine here, the glass can also be used for beer, sake, shochu, whisky, coffee, tea, and many other drinks, making it useful every day.
For example, put a DIONYSOS Wine Freeze in the freezer in the morning. When you come home after work, pour in sparkling wine and prepare a snack while it cools.
Then settle in for a blissful glass. That sounds like a great way to use it. Beer is recommended too.
To be frank, one DIONYSOS Wine Freeze may not feel like enough.
Having at least three per person—perhaps two in the freezer and one in the refrigerator—would let you choose the right one for whatever you plan to drink that day.
DIONYSOS Wine Freeze is a glass wine fans will want to have on hand.
