ABOUT

Sake born from the land

The dedication of a brewery founded in 1872.

Rooted in the community and making use of local resources, it pursues sake brewing in which history, culture, people and technique resonate together.

FEATURE STORY

In Search of the Ideal Land

Several years after whisky production in Kagoshima, in 1960, we established "Mars Yamanashi Winery" in Yamanashi for wine and whisky production.

Then, in order to fully dedicate ourselves to making wine and whisky, we searched for an even more ideal location.

The natural conditions, such as being a cold region with clear air, and blessed with moderate humidity and high-quality water, are extremely demanding.

Searching for land that met these conditions, in 1985, we opened the Mars Shinshu Distillery at an elevation of 798m at the foot of the Central Alps Mt. Komagatake in Nagano Prefecture, seeking the optimal environment.

A Brewery Founded in 1872

The brewery was founded in 1872 and has continued making sake while remaining rooted in its region. Its long history is supported by local water, rice, people and culture.

Making Use of Local Resources

The brewery values ingredients and resources from the surrounding area. By working with what the land provides, it seeks to create sake that expresses the identity of the region.

History, Culture, People and Technique

Its brewing brings together history and culture inherited across generations, the people who support the brewery and accumulated technical skill. The aim is for all of these elements to resonate in the finished sake.
