A must-see for anyone involved in Western confectionery making.
Yamanashi Prefecture is currently hosting the "Yamanashi Sweets Contest 2024."
This is the first time the prefecture has hosted a sweets contest, and it features categories such as sweets that pair with wine.
Here are the details.
About the "Yamanashi Sweets Contest 2024"
The "Yamanashi Sweets Contest 2024" is a confectionery competition hosted by Yamanashi Prefecture.
It is held to foster enthusiasm for sweets made with prefectural fruits and to provide pastry chefs and other professionals an opportunity to showcase the results of their self-improvement.
This is the first sweets contest organized by the prefecture, targeting individuals involved in Western confectionery production both inside and outside the prefecture—including pastry manufacturers, pastry departments of lodging facilities, cafés, and markets, as well as those planning to start a business or gain employment in the field.
Sweets That Pair with Wine Too!
The contest features three categories: Fresh Confectionery (namagashi), Processed Sweets (baked goods, compotes, etc.), and Sweets That Pair with Wine (any type of sweet or wine is welcome).
The wine pairings are expected to be casual wines from Yamanashi Prefecture (roughly under 3,000 yen).
For the judging process, entrants in the Sweets That Pair with Wine category will also propose a wine (red, white, rosé, etc.; specifying a detailed brand name is also permitted).
Ten participants from each category will advance to the final selection through the primary screening, with the final judging scheduled for Saturday, March 8, 2025.
Confectionery professionals are warmly encouraged to take on the challenge.
