YOSHIKI has launched the first Japan-made wine project under his own wine brand, “Y by YOSHIKI.”
Having produced numerous highly regarded wines in Japan and overseas from his base in Napa Valley, YOSHIKI is now embarking on full-scale Japanese wine production at Field of Dreams Winery in Yoichi, Hokkaido, with supervision by Takahiko Soga of Domaine Takahiko, one of Japan’s best-known winemakers.

About the project
The setting for the project is Yoichi, Hokkaido.
The area offers favorable natural conditions for grape growing, including a cool climate, large day-night temperature differences, and well-drained volcanic soils. In recent years, it has attracted attention in Japan and abroad as a Pinot Noir production area.
YOSHIKI recently attended a signing ceremony with Soga and Yuka Iuchi, representative director of Field of Dreams Winery. With the mayor of Yoichi also present, the partnership among the three parties was formally concluded. After the ceremony, YOSHIKI personally broke ground and planted vines in a vineyard dedicated to the project, marking its full-scale launch.

Field of Dreams Winery is an emerging winery established in Noboricho, Yoichi, Hokkaido, pursuing sustainable winemaking that makes use of the region’s natural environment and agricultural resources.
In the rare conditions found in Yoichi’s Noboricho area, the winery works to preserve an environment where people, living organisms, and microorganisms coexist while producing wines that express Yoichi’s climate and terroir. It focuses especially on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay and is expected to make further strides as part of a new Japanese wine region.
Asked by reporters about the project, YOSHIKI commented, “If I’m going to do this, I want to aim for the best wine in the world. I continue to create things that stimulate the five senses in music, fashion, and many other fields, and I hope we can make Japanese wine with the delicate umami that is unique to Yoichi.”
Soga commented, “YOSHIKI says that ‘wine is art,’ and I feel exactly the same way. Through wine, I want to express the beauty of Japan’s natural environment. I am convinced that the wine and grapes of Yoichi, Hokkaido have quality that can compete anywhere in the world. In the process of taking on the world, I hope to draw on YOSHIKI’s strength while also bringing out an even higher level of beauty that lies dormant within myself.”
