Rikuzen Takata Watami Organic Land held a grape harvest event on September 28.
The harvest was more than five times larger than last year’s, and wine made from grapes grown at Watami Organic Land is expected to be completed next March.

Grape Growing at Watami Organic Land
Rikuzen Takata Watami Organic Land is an agricultural theme park centered on organic farming and a circular society, which opened in Rikuzen Takata City, Iwate Prefecture, on April 29, 2021.
Its winemaking project aims for “sixth-sector industrialization,” integrating grape production (primary industry), processing (secondary industry), and sales (tertiary industry). Grapes are grown using root-zone-restricted cultivation, also known as pot cultivation, a method that can be used even where there is limited soil.
This Year’s Harvest
At the grape harvest festival held on September 28, around 50 people, including children attending local nursery schools and kindergartens and their parents, participated and harvested approximately 900 kg of grapes.
The vines have also been growing well, and the harvest volume was more than five times that of the previous year. The harvested grapes will be vinified on contract at a winery in Ofunato City, Iwate Prefecture, and wine from Watami Organic Land is expected to be ready in March.
The finished wine will be delivered to members of the “Wine from Zero Club.”
