TOYOSHIMA FARM, located in southern Akita Prefecture, is taking on the challenge of making a new-wine “Nouveau.”
The winery has launched a crowdfunding campaign titled “We Want to Deliver Akita Nouveau Made at Our Long-Awaited Winery! — Giving Back to Our Hometown of Yashima.”
Here are the details.
About the Project
TOYOSHIMA FARM is a winery making wine in Yashima, Yurihonjo City, Akita Prefecture.
After opening its long-awaited winery last year, it is now attempting a new-wine “Nouveau” using Pinot Noir, a variety considered difficult to cultivate.
The project is a collaboration with the e-commerce site “Uta no Kuni Shoten” and is being conducted through “SCOP” on the CAMPFIRE crowdfunding platform.
TOYOSHIMA FARM has spent seven years working to cultivate Pinot Noir for this wine. Despite setbacks, its sparkling wine “Irodori” made from the variety has been well received.
Believing that harvesting the grapes somewhat earlier than usual was a key point, the winery decided to use the relatively unusual Pinot Noir variety for Nouveau and take on the even rarer challenge of producing a white Nouveau called “Harmonie Akita Nouveau.”
After spending so many years raising the grapes, the team wants local residents and many others to be able to enjoy them.
That desire is driving the project forward.
Crowdfunding Rewards
Planned rewards include one-bottle and two-bottle sets of “Harmonie Akita Nouveau,” as well as grape juice called “Grapes in Love with Wine.”
TOYOSHIMA FARM remains committed to Yashima because it wants to communicate the appeal of agriculture to children and young people. By making use of sunny, well-drained vineyards, rich soil, and spring water from Mt. Chokai, the winery is looking toward the future development of wine, food, and tourism in Akita Prefecture.
