On Monday, March 20, 2023, "STARRACE KOMORO," a complex facility combining a winery/shop building and a restaurant building, was completed on the grounds of Iizunayama Park in Komoro City, Nagano Prefecture.
Here are the details.
About "STARRACE KOMORO"
"STARRACE KOMORO" is a complex facility combining a winery/shop building and a restaurant building, created by CONTE First-Class Architect Office Co., Ltd. and Renoveru, Inc., with Greve.t Inc.—which operates agriculture and winemaking businesses in Komoro City, Nagano Prefecture—serving as the project owner.
It is the first project in Nagano Prefecture to utilize the "Park-PFI (Public Park Private Finance Initiative)" system, which promotes the effective use of urban parks.
Aiming to promote agriculture and food culture, it is an experiential complex where visitors can experience and tour primary to tertiary industries, and where park visitors and local residents can actively interact.
In terms of architectural design...
(1) Design in harmony with the existing landscape
(2) Place-making that capitalizes on the scenic view
(3) Local production and local consumption of materials
These were the goals pursued.
Winemaking is also a key highlight
Among the construction plans mentioned above, what draws particular attention is the "local production and local consumption of materials."
This time, soil from the vineyard operated by the project owner, Greve.t, is used as plastering material for the entrance wall of the winery/shop building.
The design goes beyond simply utilizing materials effectively by also embracing the story behind them.
In addition, stones excavated during construction are repurposed for outdoor tables and benches, and the sloping terrain is leveraged to introduce natural ventilation and daylight to reduce air conditioning energy loads, fully embodying "local production and local consumption of materials."
Can't wait for the grand opening!
Nagano Prefecture has become a highly watched production region even within Japanese wine.
We cannot wait to see what kind of wonderful facility "STARRACE KOMORO" will become upon its full opening.
