When people hear of renowned Japanese wine-producing regions, many may picture eastern or northern Japan, such as Yamanashi, Nagano, Yamagata, and Hokkaido.
However, regions producing outstanding Japanese wine now span nationwide.
Each region is developing into a distinguished producing area that cherishes terroir to craft "local wines that can only be tasted in that land."
Amid this Japanese wine landscape, the area garnering attention as "the most exciting wine-producing region right now, No. 1" is Western Japan.
Not only is the wine quality high, but it is also known as a must-visit area for Japanese wine fans, dotted with a wide variety of wineries ranging from long-established ones to mid-sized, small-scale, and urban wineries.
"In that case, I want to learn more deeply about Western Japanese wine."
An event perfect for those who feel this way will be held on December 13, 2024.
That is "West Japanese Wine Expo 2024 in Fukuoka".
This is the first large-scale event planned and operated by western Japanese wineries.
Let's take a look at the details.

About the Organizer, the West Japan Winery Association

"West Japanese Wine Expo 2024 in Fukuoka" is hosted by the West Japan Winery Association.
Inaugurated in December 2019, the West Japan Winery Association was established with the goals of raising awareness of "Japanese wine," improving quality, honing technical skills, maintaining and expanding wine grape vineyards, and supporting grape growers.
Its members are wineries from the Hokuriku, Kinki/Shikoku, Chugoku, and Kyushu regions, and the chairman is none other than Mr. Toshihiro Takai, President and Representative Director of Katashimo Wine Food Co., Ltd.
(Currently, Mr. Naoyuki Ota, Director of Hiroshima Miyoshi Winery Co., Ltd.)

As some of you may know, the predecessors of the West Japan Winery Association were the Osaka Winery Association and the Kansai Winery Association.
To break away from the current state where everything is decided around Tokyo, wineries were brought together in Osaka and Kansai to form associations, but they were unable to bring about major change.
Thereupon, Mr. Takai toured wineries across western Japan, eventually leading to the founding of the West Japan Winery Association in 2019.
The West Japan Winery Association is increasing its presence as a new wine organization, and there is no doubt that it will bring significant change to the Japanese wine world going forward.
Even if each winery is small, gathering together allows them to create new things and act as a powerful force.
A major event that can be called the culmination of the activities of the West Japan Winery Association is "West Japanese Wine Expo 2024 in Fukuoka."
