The 1st "Kanpai with Japanese Wine Day™" promotion will be held in Nihonbashi for three days, from Friday, October 28 to Sunday, October 30, 2022.
"Kanpai with Japanese Wine Day™" is a promotional event organized by the Japan Winery Award Council in collaboration with Nihonbashi Miyoshikai.
Let's take a closer look at the details.
Key Points of "Kanpai with Japanese Wine Day™"
Here are three key points to keep in mind regarding "Kanpai with Japanese Wine Day™."
- Significance of October 30
- Japanese Wine Still Accounts for Only About 5% of Domestic Wine Consumption
- Why Start in Nihonbashi?
First, the "Kanpai with Japanese Wine Day™" promotion is held on or around October 30, and here is why:
"Because October 30 is a deeply meaningful anniversary for Japanese wineries: on October 30, 2018, the 'Standards for Labeling of Production Process and Quality of Fruit Wine, etc. (National Tax Agency Notice)' came into effect, clearly distinguishing Japanese wine from other wines and allowing Japanese wine to be labeled with the region of origin, grape variety, vintage, and more."
Furthermore, although people speak of a Japanese wine boom, Japanese wine still accounts for only about 5% of domestic wine consumption.
Precisely because its reputation at home and abroad is rising, and attention on its producers (wineries) is growing, holding this event now is deeply significant.
And why Nihonbashi?
Nihonbashi is a place of diverse appeal, including its geographical status as the starting point of Japan's national highways, the distinct neighborhood atmosphere preserving the history and culture where goods, experiences, and people from all over Japan have interacted since the Edo period, and restaurants that carry on Edo-period food culture.
Moreover, the fact that it is organized jointly by the Japan Winery Award Council and Nihonbashi Miyoshikai is also an extremely important point.
Event Overview of "Kanpai with Japanese Wine Day™"
This promotion will feature an opening ceremony and a restaurant promotion.
The opening ceremony will be held on Friday, October 28 from 17:00 to 17:45, with main guests including representatives from 5-star wineries of the Japan Winery Award®, Toshiaki Hirose (Representative Director and CEO of HiRAKU Co., Ltd., former captain of the Japan national rugby team), embassies in Japan, and relevant government ministries.
For the restaurant promotion, an "Edomae Sushi and Japanese Wine Pairing" experience is scheduled to be held at Nihonbashi Janomeya Honten on Friday, October 28, from 18:00 to 19:30.
In addition, brochures are planned to introduce establishments, mainly restaurants in Nihonbashi Miyoshikai, that serve Japanese wine.
Cheers with Japanese Wine!
There are days such as "Nationwide Simultaneous Kanpai with Sake Day!" on October 1 and "Honkaku Shochu and Awamori Day" on November 1.
Promotions like this are deeply meaningful in order to enliven Japanese wine as one of Japan's native alcoholic beverages.
If you are a Japanese wine fan, why not take this opportunity to fully enjoy Japanese wine once again?
