An Unprecedented Oil with the Aroma of Wine! What is Pure Domestically Produced Grapeseed Oil?

Dekunobonz Co., Ltd. has developed grapeseed oil pressed from grape seeds grown in Japan for the first time in the country. (Sales are scheduled to begin in 2022.)

Pure domestically produced grapeseed oil is made by extracting seeds from the wine pomace left after pressing wine and slowly pressing those seeds without applying heat.

Here, we introduce pure domestically produced grapeseed oil, which also seems to pair wonderfully with Japanese wine.

5 Years in the Making

The developer of this pure domestically produced grapeseed oil is Dekunobonz Co., Ltd., a company that manufactures and sells edible oils using only domestic ingredients.

The idea for this pure domestically produced grapeseed oil reportedly came about while the company was constantly considering how to move customers, create a positive cycle in the local community, and continue taking on challenges through stable management.

It all started when they heard that Iwate Prefecture is Japan's top producer of crimson glory vine (yamabudo), which unexpectedly led to an encounter with a local winery in the prefecture that makes wine from these wild grapes.

Hearing that the winery was having trouble disposing of wine pomace, they began oil production using the wine pomace.

Because they were making grapeseed oil from scratch, they reportedly encountered various difficulties.

And now, 5 years from conception.

They have finally succeeded in developing pure domestically produced grapeseed oil.

A Flavorful Finish with the Aroma of Wine

A key characteristic of the pure domestically produced grapeseed oil developed by the company is that you can enjoy the aroma of wine.

Because this oil is pressed entirely without heat, unlike existing tasteless and odorless grapeseed oils, it is crafted into a richly flavorful grapeseed oil carrying the aroma of wine.

A luxurious grapeseed oil where you can enjoy the flavors of Japanese wine.

It is definitely something you will want to pair with Japanese wine.

Great Potential to Enjoy Varietal Differences

According to Dekunobonz Co., Ltd., starting from the 2021 vintage, they plan to accept wine pomace from multiple wineries and develop products managed by vintage, grape variety, and production region.

In the future, there is a strong possibility that consumers will be able to enjoy varietal grapeseed oils, such as oils featuring the nuances of Cabernet Sauvignon or Chardonnay.

In addition, during the production of this grapeseed oil, the wine pomace that used to be discarded by wineries is sorted while still fresh at local welfare workshops within the town.

Afterward, it is dried, helping reduce waste and tread lightly on the earth, creating a sustainable cycle that offers unprecedented value through collaboration between agriculture, welfare, and food processing.

Pure domestically produced grapeseed oil is a must-see for Japanese wine fans as well.
