“Izu Retreat Atagawa Suiko by Onkochishin” is operated by Onkochishin Inc.
An accommodation plan is currently on sale where guests can compare wines aged in a shipwreck off Kawazu at counter seating overlooking the sea.
Reservations opened on Wednesday, October 21, and are accepted for only 8 pairs (16 guests total) between Wednesday, December 23, and Friday, December 25, 2026.
Enjoy Wine Aged in a Shipwreck off Kawazu

At “Izu Retreat Atagawa Suiko by Onkochishin,” the staff submerged wine onto a shipwreck at a depth of about 25 meters off Kawazu in July 2026, diving alongside a local diving shop.
During this December Christmas period, both the wine salvaged from the sea and conventionally aged wine of the same label will be served.

Incidentally, underwater aging involves submerging wine in the sea for a certain period to mature; one of the triggers for its popularity was the 2010 salvage of roughly 180-year-old Champagne from a Baltic Sea shipwreck, reported to have been in excellent condition.
This underwater-aged wine will be served at the inn's restaurant, “Shio to Hai.”
Under the theme of “Japanese cuisine of the sea and time,” reflecting the terroir and memories of Izu, guests can enjoy wine that spent time underwater paired with Japanese cuisine rooted in local flavors at counter seats.
A Christmas Overlooking the Moon Road on the Sea of Higashi-Izu

December 24, 2026, will feature a full moon for the first time in 19 years on Christmas Eve.
The path of light cast onto the sea's surface by moonlight is called the “Moon Road,” visible during the hours when the full moon is out across three days: the day before, the day of, and the day after the full moon.
Higashi-Izu Town's “Hokkawa Onsen Moon Road” has been selected as one of Japan's 100 Famous Moons, and guests can also experience viewing the Moon Road from nearby “Izu Retreat Atagawa Suiko.”
On the dates of the plan, there is a strong possibility of viewing the Moon Road through the windows of the counter seating at the restaurant “Shio to Hai.”

Furthermore, in guest rooms where the sound of waves reaches the terrace, guests are sure to spend a relaxed Christmas with loved ones while admiring the view from free-flowing hot spring open-air baths as the moonlight reflects like a single path upon the shimmering sea surface.
An exceptionally romantic three days that can only be experienced at “Izu Retreat Atagawa Suiko by Onkochishin.”
Why not treat yourself to a stay with your special someone?
