Gaiax Co., Ltd. has launched “Gunma Yamaiku DAO,” a regional revitalization DAO initiated by the Gunma Prefectural Government, using DAOX, the DAO management platform developed by Gaiax.
Its first project plans to make world-class natural wine using assets from inside and outside the prefecture and to participate in Japan’s hometown-tax donation program.
Here are the details.
About Gunma Yamaiku DAO
Gunma Yamaiku DAO is a regional revitalization DAO project led by the Gunma Prefectural Government. Members from inside and outside the prefecture participate in a decentralized, autonomous way to revitalize Gunma, expand the population connected with the region, encourage relocation, stabilize future finances and make the region sustainable.
The main feature of the DAO’s first project, the “Natural Wine Winemaking Project,” is that investors do more than provide funding. They can choose their own dedicated parcel from vineyards spread through Gunma’s natural landscape and enjoy making wine based on grapes grown there.
This new experiential project gives investors a unique connection with wine while creating opportunities for deeper involvement with the region.
Developing part of Gunma’s mountains as a winery
For the first project, local businesses and natural-wine specialists will participate in developing part of Gunma’s mountain area as a winery and producing full-scale natural wine.
Key features include:
1. A wine-owner experience through selection of a vineyard parcel
2. Transparent, participatory management through DAOX
3. Use of a joint-stock company as the legal wrapper
4. A system for regional collaboration and growth of the connected population
The natural-wine team is said to include social entrepreneur Yuji Roppongi, Gunma Natural Wine Research Association representative Eiichi Yanagi, winemaker Hirotake Ooka, grape breeder Shingo Hayashi, editor Akiko Ishizuka and horticulturist Manabu Hoshino.
