Which Japanese Wine Was Awarded 【TOP OF THE BEST】 at the "15th Concours Mondial des Féminalise 2021"!?

The awards ceremony for the "15th Concours Mondial des Féminalise 2021" was held recently.

At the ceremony, an online awards ceremony was held for the Japanese wineries and sake breweries that won gold and silver medals, and the 【TOP OF THE BEST】, awarded to the top-scoring brand in each of the three categories of Japanese wine, Japanese liqueur, and Japanese sake, was also announced.

Here, we will introduce the Japanese wine and other entries that earned the TOP OF THE BEST.

About the "Concours Mondial des Féminalise"

The "Concours Mondial des Féminalise" is a world-renowned competition that ranks among the TOP 5 in France, the heartland of wine.

The greatest appeal of this competition is that the judges are female wine professionals from all over the world.

It is known as an exceptionally rare competition where approximately 700 female wine professionals—including experienced female sommeliers, female winemakers, female journalists, female importers, and female chefs from around the world—gather to evaluate entries through rigorous blind tastings.

About 【TOP OF THE BEST】

At the "15th Concours Mondial des Féminalise 2021," held from March 29 to April 8, 2021, 5,246 items were submitted from 10 countries around the world.

Among them, 312 items were submitted in the wine, liqueur, and sake categories from Japan, and 104 items won gold and silver medals.

【TOP OF THE BEST】 is an honorable award given to the items with the highest score out of a 20-point scale among the Japanese winery and brewery entries that won gold or silver medals.

At this presentation, the three categories of Japanese wine, liqueur, and sake that won 【TOP OF THE BEST】 were announced.

In the Japanese liqueur category, 〈Kato Kichibee Shoten (Fukui) Born Yuzu Liqueur〉 received the award, and in the sake category, 〈Otokoyama Honten Co., Ltd. (Miyagi) Sotenden Tokubetsu Junmai〉 was awarded.

And for Japanese wine, 〈Ryomi Vineyard & Winery (Miyagi) Niagara〉 was selected.

Products to watch in the future

What is noteworthy this time is that for wine, the table grape variety "Niagara" won, and for sake, rather than the "Ginjo-style" or "aged style" that tend to win awards in overseas competitions, a gentle "Junmai-shu" won the award.

Furthermore, because this is an international competition with a tremendous impact that has led award-winning brands to achieve a 263% increase in sales compared to the previous year, it is likely to exert a significant influence on distribution as well.
