Oak-Aged Barrel Trial of Mikan Fruit Wine "Cicela" Launches Crowdfunding Campaign on CAMPFIRE!

Domaine Pinot Livre (Suo-Oshima Winery Co., Ltd.), which operates a brewing facility in Suo-Oshima (Yashiro Island), Yamaguchi Prefecture, has launched a crowdfunding campaign on CAMPFIRE for the development of the oak-aged barrel trial of "Cicela," a mikan fruit wine.

This rare fruit wine made in Japan is a bottle that Japanese wine fans will definitely want to keep an eye on.

Here are the details.

What is the mikan fruit wine "Cicela"?

Suo-Oshima is known as the "Island of Mikans."

"Cicela" is a mikan fruit wine developed to express the essence of Suo-Oshima.

It is a unique bottle where the gentle flavors of traditional Japanese Unshu mikan are drawn out even more intensely using the sur lie method, which is surprisingly adopted from white winemaking.

This time, to explore the further potential of Cicela, they took on the challenge of an oak-aged barrel trial of Cicela.

About the "Cicela" Barrel Trial

The barrel trial undertaken by "Cicela."

A barrel trial refers to a "comparative barrel tasting," and its mission is to discover the diverse characteristics of "Cicela" across different barrels.

This time, cuvées from the same vintage (2019) were aged in four different types of barrels, each with distinct personalities.

Each was bottled separately without blending.

  • Here are the details of the four varieties.

CM (Chateau Ferre Medium)
→ Cicela 2019 Cuvée Barrel Trial

CH (Chateau Ferre Heavy)

BH (Bordeaux export Heavy)

Why not experience to the fullest the individuality of each unblended cuvée (base wine)?

A must-see challenge for Japanese wine fans too!

The rewards for this crowdfunding project center on the above four types of cuvées (720ml / 375ml), along with standard-taste Cicela for comparative tasting, and the "Cicela Barrel Trial Blender Kit" which allows drinkers to experience blending at home.

This unique initiative shares common ground with wine and will surely intrigue Japanese wine fans.
