About Asahi Breweries' Grape Cultivation for Japanese Wine
In March 2017, Asahi Breweries, Ltd. acquired 6 hectares of agricultural land for grapes in Umekawa-cho, Yoichi-cho, Yoichi-gun, Hokkaido through the agricultural production corporation "Nikka Yoichi Vineyard Co., Ltd." and began cultivating grapes for Japanese wine.
They operate their own vineyards to cultivate European grape varieties such as Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Kerner, and Chardonnay, aiming to accumulate grape-growing expertise and research and pass down winemaking techniques.
They have been conducting repeated brewing trials at NIKI Hills Village Co., Ltd., a general agricultural corporation with which they have formed a comprehensive business alliance concerning winemaking and grape cultivation, and are reportedly also considering releasing Japanese wines made with other grape varieties from 2024 onward.
About "N.Y.V Yoichi Kerner 2022"
"N.Y.V Yoichi Kerner 2022" is a Japanese wine made with 100% Kerner grapes grown in their own estate vineyard in Yoichi, Hokkaido, and harvested in 2022.
It is characterized by an unfolding fruity aroma of apple and pear, with a harmonious taste of crisp acidity and a pleasantly subtle bitterness.
The product name "N.Y.V" comes from the initial letters of the product concept: "Unprecedented wine possibilities, from Yoichi = Next Yoichi Value."
The label is based on white to express the snow of Yoichi, featuring the product name "N·Y·V" alongside a "/" symbolizing the training method of planting grapevines at an angle to withstand Yoichi's heavy snowfall.
The quantity is limited to just 1,200 bottles.
