Today, there are many wineries in western Japan.
Did you know that Okayama Prefecture, one of those regions, is home to as many as 11 wineries?

This time, among the wineries in Okayama Prefecture, we visited "Domaine Tetta,"
which is immensely popular for "that motif." Representative Mr. Takahashi told us all about its charm.

CHAPTER 01

About Domaine Tetta

Mr. Takahashi's explanations were very easy to understand, allowing us to get a glimpse of the secret behind the delicious taste of Tetta wine.

He mentioned that cultivation across all the fields uses rain-cut covers. While this is a measure unique to this rainy region, considering the vast area of the fields, the effort involved must be truly immense.

In addition, its unique taste, where you can feel the limestone minerals, leaves a lasting impression.

We certainly can't take our eyes off Domaine Tetta's future evolution!

CHAPTER 02

Distinctive Limestone Soil

The area around Niimi City in western Okayama Prefecture is famous for its limestone. Landforms created when limestone exposed on the surface is eroded by rainwater and other forces are called karst plateaus.

About a 20-minute drive from Domaine Tetta, there is a limestone cave formed in this karst plateau, "Makido Cave."

In 1929 (Showa 4), the poet Yosano Akiko composed a poem describing it as a "cave filled with wonders," which led to it being named Makido Cave.
Enveloped in silence, the inside of the cave is illuminated with colorful LEDs, giving it a mystical atmosphere.

It is truly amazing to see how the limestone contributing to the wine's mineral flavor has transformed into such shapes!

When you visit the winery, be sure to take a short trip to see it.
