ABOUT

Iida Honke sells primarily in its local area around Katori City.

It has built a highly distinctive brand as a local specialty available only here.

FEATURE STORY

The History of Iida Honke

Since the Edo period, Iida Honke operated as a rice wholesaler in Omigawa, Katori City, a town that prospered through river transport on the Tone River, shipping rice to Edo.

In 1877, the family founded a sake brewery using rice from Katori, a major rice-producing area. Since then, five generations have continued that history in Omigawa.

The sake name “Ohime” was formed from the first characters of Omiya Shrine and Himemiya Shrine, two local guardian shrines enshrined together in the city.

Since its founding, the brewery has maintained a culture of continually taking on new challenges.

Gran Principessa

A red wine whose Italian name means “Great Princess,” echoing the brewery's sake brand Ohime.

It is made from grapes grown in Katori City, Chiba Prefecture, in vineyards in the former Kurimoto Town area. Local Katori grapes are vinified into a youthful, light-bodied style.

Produced in 2014.

In 2015, it received an award in Katori City's local specialty product development program.
