The "Hong Kong Washu Awards" is a global wine competition held in Hong Kong.
Celebrating its 5th edition this year, the competition has been renamed the "Washu Awards" to promote Japanese wine and sake to professionals and a broad range of consumers from an even wider perspective, collaborating not only within Hong Kong but also with partners across Asian countries.
Eligible Categories
The categories of washu subject to judging are Japanese wine and sake.
In recent years, Japanese wine has captivated the market and increased its global recognition thanks to its unique terroir and improving quality.
The Washu Awards believes that by collaborating with partners (media, sommeliers, industry professionals) throughout Asia, it can unlock more opportunities for this category and deliver sake to more markets.
Furthermore, sake is also a beverage category experiencing global growth. At present, recognition and the number of Japanese restaurants carrying sake across all price ranges are on the rise.
About the Judges
The panel of judges consists not only of members from Hong Kong, but from across Asia (Macau, China, Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and perhaps even more!) with diverse backgrounds (journalists, educators, wine judges, sommeliers, etc.) and high levels of expertise, strictly judging entry items while offering diverse opinions and comments.
The Wine Division Head Judge will once again be Mr. Reeze Choi! (3rd place at the 17th A.S.I. Contest of the Best Sommelier of the World in Paris)
Judging Venue and Schedule
Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC): The judging will be held at the International Wine & Spirits Fair 2024.
The event period runs from November 7 to 9, 2024 (Judging day is November 7).
Furthermore, together with judges from across Asia, we will host a discussion panel covering topics such as the judging experience at the WASHU AWARDS and trends across the Asian wine market as a whole.

To enter, please submit various information regarding the submitted wines and sake, such as names, producing regions, and vintages, using the entry form.

1 – 5 entries: ¥19,800 (tax included) / bottle
6 or more entries: ¥16,500 (tax included) / bottle
For judging, 4 bottles of each entry item (in 720ml or 750ml format) are required.
Note) For formats smaller than this capacity, 8 bottles are required for judging.
All bottles will be evaluated via blind tasting.
