On Thursday, August 6, THE WINE by TOKYU DEPARTMENT STORE Futakotamagawa, a wine specialty shop operated by Tokyu Department Store, will open inside Futakotamagawa Tokyu Food Show.
The shop carries wines from around the world, with a particular focus on Burgundy, while also placing strong emphasis on Japanese wine.
Ahead of the opening of THE WINE by TOKYU DEPARTMENT STORE Futakotamagawa, we attended a preview for members of the media. Here is our report.
An Impressive Selection of More Than 1,300 Wines

The interior of THE WINE by TOKYU DEPARTMENT STORE Futakotamagawa was designed to evoke the atmosphere of a wine cave.
Centered around a symbolic column in the middle of the store, the space is designed to create opportunities for customers to discover new wines.
The shop carries around 1,300 wines in total, including roughly 400 premium bottles.
The cellar features fine wines from around the world with a strong Burgundy selection, while the wall displays include a broad range of European, New World and natural wines, as well as an extensive lineup of Japanese wines.
Near the entrance, recommended wines are presented in a ranking format. The selections were made after sommeliers from the Tokyu Group tasted approximately 100 wines.
The lineup spans classic wines, trend-driven bottles and natural wines, chosen from a wide range of styles around the theme of “wines you can enjoy every day without getting bored.”
Tasting the Original Wines

THE WINE by TOKYU DEPARTMENT STORE Futakotamagawa also includes a tasting bar where customers can enjoy wine casually.
Staff select distinctive wines according to rotating themes such as new arrivals, latest vintages, wineries and grape varieties. Customers can enjoy them by the glass in an informal standing-bar style.
At the preview, we tasted two original wines.

The first was “Shinshu Takayama Winery Ruri no Shirabe Takayama Blanc 2023.”
This is an original Tokyu Group wine created in collaboration with Shinshu Takayama Winery, located in Shinshu Takayama, an area known for high-quality grape growing.
The white wine is a co-fermentation of grapes harvested from 13 vineyards scattered throughout Takayama Village. It features fresh, floral aromas reminiscent of green apple, Japanese citrus and roses.
Its delicate, elegant acidity and clean finish make the quality of the wine immediately apparent.
The second wine we tasted was “Domaine Kosei Shinshu Kataoka Merlot Wakamurasaki -Kasane- 2024.”
This red wine is a collaboration with Domaine Kosei, a winery in the Kataoka district of Shiojiri City, Nagano Prefecture, dedicated to Merlot. Grapes from three vineyards at different elevations are blended and matured in one-year-used French oak barrels from Nadalié, making for a particularly luxurious bottling.
Fresh prune, subtle spice and vanilla from the oak are expressed with restraint in a refined style.
The wine has a complex structure with a hint of minerality, delicate acidity and remarkably silky tannins.
These original wines are developed with the involvement of Tokyu Group sommeliers. The fourth release in the series is planned as a collaboration with Château Jun, a winery in Yamanashi Prefecture.
A Wine Shop That Will Satisfy Japanese Wine Fans

THE WINE by TOKYU DEPARTMENT STORE Futakotamagawa carries just under 100 Japanese wines.
The selection emphasizes sound, well-made wines from producers whose faces and stories are visible, with many bottles priced around ¥3,000, making the range approachable for everyday drinking.
The wines come from regions across Japan, with a particularly strong selection from Nagano Prefecture.
From long-established producers to emerging wineries, the lineup offers a snapshot of the current Japanese wine scene.
Starting with the grand opening on Thursday, August 6, the tasting bar will also offer a paid tasting flight featuring 10 Japanese wines.
The following wines are scheduled to be served:
