From Thursday, April 25 to Thursday, May 2, the stage play "Wine Girls," a story of high school girls who dedicated their youth to winemaking, will be performed at Theater 1010.
This is a production that Japanese wine fans will definitely want to keep an eye on.
Here are the details.
About "Wine Girls"
This stage production is based on Sanshiro Matsuyama's novel "Wine Girls" (published by Poplar Publishing), which is inspired by a true story.
Modeled after Shiojiri Shigakukan High School, which began winemaking in 1943 and has earned high acclaim, including a bronze medal at the Japan Wine Competition for its brand wine "KIKYO," this story depicts the love, friendship, and passion for winemaking of high school girls.
While being a youth coming-of-age story, this production is also profound entertainment that portrays the history of Shiojiri and wine, the relationship between war and wine, and the bond between the Wine Girls and the early pioneers.
The script and direction are handled by Shintaro Kanno, known for works such as the musical "Nintama Rantaro" series and the stage play "Unfair Moon" series.
A Talented and Capable Cast
Playing the lead role of Ichiru Kitamura is Yuka Kato, who graduated from NMB48 in August 2023. Joining Kato as the Wine Girls are Sumire Yokono, a former NMB48 member now active as a TV personality and singer, as Yuiko Momose, and actor and voice actor Chie Arii as Miroku Okuzawa, among others.
In addition, Takuro Tatsumi, who is widely active in TV dramas and films, will appear as Shinichiro Yonehara, the principal of Kikyogahara Academy.
With Takuro Tatsumi, Yuka Kato, Chie Arii, Karen Negishi, Mao Hiradate, and others, this production brings together a cast of wine connoisseurs.
It has also been decided that tie-up projects with restaurants in the Kitasenju area will be implemented.
